US Trip 2008 - NYC: The Met

May 2008 - The Metropoltan Museum of Art, NYC

After eating, Alvin, Maan & I went to the Met museum for some NYC sight seeing. Sandee had to go back to her place, the reason I already forgot. Hehe.

Ang laki ng Met, parang 4 floors ata to, and if you've seen Night at the Museum I, you'll be amazed and amused, kasi nakikita mo yung mga display na nandun sa movie. haha. We were lucky to catch the last day of the Egyptian exhibit, imomove na nila kasi yung exhibit sa isa pang museum, and that day was their last day. Hehe. May bago ding exhibit doon, yung Superheroes, pero bawal kumuha ng picture. Nandun yung costumes nina Batman at Ironman, astig. Hehe.

May 2008 - Queens, NYC

Maan & Alvin Chu lived in one apartment for a month for their elective. As very supportive friends, Sandee & I visited them one day at their room and ate at the local Chinese restaurant very delicious Chinese food. Haha. I was testing my new dSLR at that time, kaya medyo pangit pa mga kuha ko non. Hehe.

Tignan kung gaano pa kami kapayat noon (this was only 2 years ago!!!)

Goooood times. :D

Wildest Nightmare

...I dreamt that we were all taking the board exams, and after the exams on the first day, as we were about to leave the testing center and discussing our answers in the exams, I suddenly realized that I DIDN’T FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS. Instead of writing A or B in the true or false part, I wrote the whole word! (Which was very weird and impossible since MCQs naman ang board exams, at scantron pa ang gamit, haha.) Anyway, I was panicking, hyperventilating and crying all at the same time. I then tried to beg the examiner to let me retake the exam, and of course, dahil madrama ang lahat ng mga panaginip, she didn’t entertain my plea.

The New Secretary of Health

A new Secretary of Health has been recently appointed by P-NOY, Dr. Enrique “Ike” T. Ona, former director of the renovated and refurbished National Kidney & Transplant Institute in Quezon City, a tertiary specialty PUBLIC hospital known as one of the leading kidney transplant centers in Asia.
Dr. Ona is quite unknown for the common people which probably explains the raising of eye brows of some when he was appointed by the adminsitration. Unlike the popular choice Dr. Jimmy Galvez-Tan (my own favorite, I really gladly thought it was him that P-NOY will choose), who’s really known for his uncanny ability to lead people (doctors, health care workers, and government officials) through his NGO and WHO work; connect with the masses through his various media appearances; and of course his previous achievements as past secretary of health, Dr. Ona’s own achievements have been unknown to most people.
Link

On my 25th Day

Today is the 25th day of my board review. It was only last June 1 when I started opening my books, actually, Lippincot's Biochemistry. Labag pa sa kalooban kong mag-aral. Napilitan lang kasi may biochem review kami c/o Siena (hehe, Dr. Pilones pala). But I think it was a good start. Pa-easy-easy nga lang muna, that's why it took me almost a week (6 days) to (barely!) finish Biochem. The review class helped me jump-start my neurons to actually accept the fact that I am about to bombard them with lots and lots of fragmented information.

Reviewing for the medical boards is hard. Really really hard.

Wordpress: Welcome Back!

After such a long hiatus I think I'm never ever going to find a way to maintain a blog again. My last post here was more than a year ago, and that was when I PROMISED myself that I'd be updating constantly during internship. I even had my blog transferred here at Wordpress from blogger in the hopes that a change in atmosphere would inspire me to write more. Boooo to me and my toxicity -- or lack thereof? I mean PGH Internship was really hard, doing things you don't really have to do but you need to do it since there's no one else but you. BUT it wasn't as hard as I expected it to be. In fact, I even enjoyed most parts of it! I think it was the best year out of my 7 years in med school! I had free time to do whatever I wanted, like travel, go to the beach, photography, watch movies and TV series, and blogging was....

REGALIA: Phi Kappa Mu Induction 2010

March 27, 2010
Hyatt Hotel and Casino

It feels nice, once in a while, to dress-up, lose your white uniform and have a sumptuous dinner buffet in a 5-star hotel, in great company with brods and your special someone. And because of Phi, I had the opportunity of being part of such an extravagant tradition called the Annual Fraternity Ball for 5 straight years. I think, aside from the brotherhood and Phi spirit that is being shared in such activities, they also serve as training grounds for proper etiquette and conduct in formal occasions, especially for us doctors.

What's special for us in the year's ball is that this is our LAST ball as part of the resident fraternity. Well, our younger brods prepared a surprise for our batch, a ASS-KICKING VIDEO! Ngayon lang ako nakakita ng ganito kagaling na pagkakagawa na video! MARAMING SALAMAT brods! Maraming salamat kina Kevin Fernandez, Mark Malaki at Migz Guillermo! Galing!

2 Years Back: UP Manila Graduation

April 19, 2008

A new discovery from my coffers! I didn't even realize na di ko napublish tong album na to until I needed pictures of our previous graduation. Hahaha. :-)

Karamihan kasi ay nagsiuwian na, enjoying their break before clerkship finally starts. Hehe. Well, masaya naman tayo nito, may centennial pin pang kasama. At si Percy ang star of the show, graduating magna cum laude! Once in a blue moon kasi mangyari sa med yun. Hehe. :)

We even had a picture with Pres. Roman, nung hindi pa siya corrupt! *blech*

Hehe, yun lang. Have fun! In a few weeks gagraduate na uli tayo! April 22, 2010!

Block A's Pre-Community Adventure

March 19-20, 2010
Calamba - Los Banos, Laguna

In every block who starts a rotation in Community Medicine, they get a weekend off extended to three days since we shift-in on Fridays, and Commed usually starts the Monday after. More often than not, blocks would use this once in a blue moon opportunity to go out either on a party/sleep-over/outing/drinking spree/cook-out/videoke. Well, in our block, we did all of these in one night! :)

Right after our exam in FamMed, we hurriedly (as in, 1 hour lang from Manila to Calamba! on a Friday afternoon!!!) went to a small resort in Calamba, contact ni Abet so instead of the usual P4000, they gave it to us for P3500. Pwedee! May dalawang swimming pool, isang warm, and isang WARMEST. May dalawang kwarto, may grill at siyempre ang pinaka importante...may videoke machine!

Callao Caves in Penablanca, Cagayan
Magat Dam in Isabela

Moviefriends' Roadtrip to the North! This is actually our second long-haul drive to the north, the first one was our Ilocos adventure last 2005 (grabe, 5 years ago?). But since Meiling, who now secretly does research for a super secret IT company in Japan, came home, of course we needed to travel! By hook or by crook, kahit san man, kailangan matuloy!

Pero sa totoo lang, muntik nang di matuloy. Just 2 days before our departure date of JANUARY 1 (of all days, kailangan New Year talaga, haha) we still didn't have a place to go to. On the top of our list was Baler, Aurora to do surfing and whatnot. But I soon found out that we needed a 4x4 to go there dahil nasira daw yung daan dahil sa Ondoy. Ok, so Aurora was crossed-out from our list. I suggested we drive to Banaue Rice Terraces instead and do spelunking in Sagada after. Well, gusto pa rin ata nilang ma...

This was my last TRP, and probably one of the best one. =D Didn't get to dance with the class though... =( Laging late ang carwash sa burn, di na nakapractice, hehe.

Kudos to the brods! Level-up! No more samplex moves! A big challenge to the next TRP head, hehe. Next year, sa likod na lang kami sasayaw! Hehe! ASTIG ng shirt! AYOS!

Congrats din to the sisses! IBANG LEVEL talaga kayo, haha. No contest. :D

Congrats to the dancing churvers! I was dancing in spirit with you! Hehe. :) 4 practices? Eh ano ngayon? Kayang kaya! Hehe. Sayaw tayo next year! =D

MAGNIFY: One Big Phi 2009

Nov 23, 2009
Bellagio Square, Manila

Danced and partied at my last One Big Phi as a resident brod!

Me and OBP go waaaay back, and one of my fondest memories of it was during my 1st year in the college as an Intarmed freshman. This was THE time when I first saw the PHI difference -- an event so BIG could only be organized and executed by the best. And since then, I never looked in any other direction. :) It definitely was ONE BIG PHI.

Congrats to the OBP project heads for successfully bringing out the event from the hallowed halls of our college! Hehe! Galing brods and sisses!

Birthday Surprise

I always liked spontaneous, spur of the moment things. Planning in order to get somewhere or figuring out how to get there was never really my thing. This is especially true for out-of-town trips. Probably because of the high chances of it getting cancelled if you plan in advance? Or the drum up before the trip becoming so huge that the trip may not turn out as planned = disappointment and frustration.

Spontaneity = no expectations = maximum enjoyment. :D

This is what I had in mind on one of my post-duty days from the Med ER. I was walking home, coming from a relatively benign duty at the ER, when suddenly a thought popped into my head. I always have these on my post-duty days, while walking through the length of Spine Unit to Rob Towers.

I want to go out of Manila, now.

A quick text to Maan, exchanges consisting of deciding whether to go to Subic (and go to Zoobic!), Clark (and shop for PX goods? haha), Batangas (a quick day-trip to a beach), a quick phone reservation, fi...

Spaghetti ala Gerald

I was craving for pinoy style spaghetti for dinner early this September. Buti na lang my dad replaced my old electric stove that cooks fried eggs for 15 effin minutes! Now that I have a much bigger one (and a matching rice cooker!! haha) I can now experiment while here in Manila. Hehe. :)

I was never really a fan of the italian kind, gusto ko Matamis at madaming chunks (i.e. HOTDOG, haha) but I had not enough money for ground beef/pork so I used left-over hotdogs and spiced ham (as in 1 month na ata sa ref). I also used PINOY STYLE spaghetti sauce of Del Monte...ang sarappppp!

Siyempre bumili na din ako ng pang-salad, haha.

This was not my first foray into cooking pasta. But this was the first PINOY spaghetti I cooked! Whoopee! Madali lang pala, haha. I plan to buy a white plate na din, para maganda ang plating, parang sa top chef. Hehe.

Sarap kumain! :)
